Exchange Rate Calculator
Sometimes you have the rate already, from your bank or a rate board. This tool uses YOUR rate.
It can also fill the live market rate for you, so you can see how close your bank quote really is.
The last row is a rough feel for a bank swap with a 2 percent margin. Your bank or card shows its own rate in its app, and that is the one to compare against.

How to use this tool
- 1Pick your two currencies and the live rate fills in by it self.
- 2Type your own rate over it if your bank quoted you one.
- 3The reverse rate shows what one unit of the other side is worth.
The math behind it
Rate = target money / base money
If 200 becomes 184, the rate is 0.92.
Type any pair and the tool shows the rate and both directions.
Who this tool is for
I watch which tools folk open most, and this one gets used by the same kinds of people again and again. If any of these sound like you, you are in the right place.
- Folk moving bigger sums between money types
- Any one checking a bank quote against the market
- Sellers pricing goods for other countries
A bank once quoted me a rate for a big transfer. I ran it next to the market rate on this page and the gap was 60 dollars. One polite call later, they found a better rate. I did not get tough. I got informed. That is most of the game.
Tips from me
- Rates move all day. A rate from this morning can be stale by dinner.
- Compare the rate you get with the mid market rate. The gap is the true cost.
- For big sums, even a small rate gap is real money. Shop the rate, not the bank.
Mistakes I see with this sum
These are the three slips I made my self or watch folk make most. Skip them and your number will be closer to the truth on the first try.
- 1Comparing your quote to the market rate with out the margin in mind. Some gap is normal.
- 2Using an old rate for a deal that closes days later. Rates move daily.
- 3Forgetting transfer fees on top of the rate. Both cost you.
Two words worth knowing
Quote
The rate some one offers you. Often with margin in it.
Pair
The two money types in a swap, like USD to EUR.
That is the whole page. The tool does the math, and the words above give it a shape. If a number still looks odd, change an input and watch what moves. Playing with the boxes taught me more than any guide did.
Common questions
+Where do I find today's rate?
The tool pulls it for you. You can also type any rate your bank or card app shows, then compare the two.
+Why is the reverse rate useful?
It lets you check the price both ways. Buying and selling often use different rates.
+How often do rates change?
All day on work days. Trips and bills can wait, big swaps should not trust a morning rate.
+What is the mid market rate?
The halfway point between buy and sell prices. It is the rate you see in the news and never quite get.
+Do I need this tool if rates are fixed here?
Use it to learn the math and to run quotes you were given. Type any rate you like.
