How to use this tool
- 1The page loads the latest market rates when you open it.
- 2Your amount gets times by the live rate for the pair you picked.
- 3The rate row shows the exact rate used, and the arrows swap the two sides.
The math behind it
Converted = amount x rate
100 at a rate of 0.92 becomes 92 in the other money.
Flip the rate and 100 back needs 108.70 of the first money.
Who this tool is for
I watch which tools folk open most, and this one gets used by the same kinds of people again and again. If any of these sound like you, you are in the right place.
- Travelers checking a rate before they swap cash
- Online shoppers buying from other countries
- Freelancers invoicing clients in other money
I used to guess currency swaps and lose small bits every trip, like a tax on hope. Then I built this tool for my self before a trip abroad and checked the rate each morning like weather. Knowing the true rate changed how I haggled, tipped and paid. Small tool, big calm.
Tips from me
- This tool uses fixed demo rates so it always works with out a feed. Check a live rate before real swaps.
- Banks add their own spread on top of the market rate. Expect a small shave.
- For trips, convert a small test sum first and watch what your bank really charges.
Mistakes I see with this sum
These are the three slips I made my self or watch folk make most. Skip them and your number will be closer to the truth on the first try.
- 1Trusting the market rate as your final rate. Banks add their slice on top.
- 2Swapping cash at airports. The rates there are the worst in town, almost always.
- 3Forgetting card fees abroad. Check your card before you go, not at the till.
Two words worth knowing
Mid market rate
The middle rate between buy and sell. The honest one.
Spread
The gap your bank or shop adds to earn on the swap.
That is the whole page. The tool does the math, and the words above give it a shape. If a number still looks odd, change an input and watch what moves. Playing with the boxes taught me more than any guide did.
Common questions
+Are these live rates?
Yes. The tool fetches current market rates when the page loads and again each time you come back. The feed refreshes about every 15 minutes.
+Why does my bank give me a worse rate?
Banks add a margin on top of the market rate. It is how they earn on swaps. Compare a few services before big sums.
+Are the rates live?
No. They are fixed demo rates so the tool never breaks. For real moves, check your bank or a live rate source.
+When is the best time to exchange?
No one knows the perfect moment. For trips, split the swap in to two smaller ones a week apart and stop watching charts.
+Can I add my own rate?
Yes. Type the rate you were quoted and the tool does the rest with your real numbers.
